Funnily enough I get asked a lot if I can make swans and while yes I can, they are not something I go out of my way to make. Though they are a good use for all those white sheets of paper they put at the back of the pack. This one is delightfully an inflatable too and I bet it floats for a short period of time before it doesn’t. ...

Given that I work for government, this is a bit of a bad choice. But it is getting to that point and I have few other choices. I have no interest in blowing up parliament. Though they did keep me waiting for a job outcome for five months and then told me I didn’t get it, which might radicalise me (probably not seeing as that was over a year ago). ...

This thing fell over multiple times while trying to take the photo, so I am amazed I managed to snap this in the few seconds before it fell over. Anyway, here’s a symbol to retraumatise all of you who survived the wonders of university during the pandemic. It also reminds me how we had a national meeting at work and I forgot to mute myself. I only found this out when someone from a different department walked over and said they enjoyed my comments on the animated reactions. Thankfully I am still very much employed. ...

Cutting it fine again and I will admit after working for over ten hours today, I don’t feel in a big caption mood. But yes, I have folded who knows how many of these Santas today, the sacrifices I make for the public it seems. Someone told me the fact that this Santa is a tetrahedron is menacing. I did not know about this supposed menace that tetrahedrons have but yeah alright. ...

Yeah it gets to about this time at night and I realise I have less than ten minutes to do these. If two degrees taught me anything, it is how to rush at the last minute. Anyway yeah I see someone mentioned me showing off a tessellation or two (but most definitely not three). Now those of you who know me know about my deep and unrelenting aversion to tessellations. In fact, even saying the word near me often results in a mallet-based injury to everyone in my radius (my friends at Melbourne Origami Group can confirm this). But perhaps now as I enter another year of my life, I might show some more empathy and kindness and maybe even peace with tessellations (and the people that fold them) is possible. ...

Alright yes I survived the dread apartment inspection today, so I feel somewhat undefeatable tonight. Though I am sure I am going to meet a difficult phone call at work tomorrow and then immediately lose any feeling of being undefeatable. Though earlier this year, I got to meet the living legend, Tomoko Fuse. She also folded one of my original models (that I’ll show off eventually), and that made me feel pretty great. To return the favour, I folded one of her models. ...

Sometimes in life you make plans… and then life shows its talent for ruining your plans. I became far too aware of this lesson when leaving my apartment at 10:30 pm to run to kmart for lightbulbs. I also discovered that one of the lightbulbs has decided to give up already, guess life was yoo hard for the little buddy. All that being said, yes I did have something slightly different planned but I had to fall back onto the secure and reliable models of Gen Hagiwara. Will I go for the threepeat tomorrow? ...

I’ll get these in… even if it means going to bed at a totally inappropriate hour. Anyway, someone said they were surprised I had gone this long without featuring some sort of prehistoric animal. And yes, sometimes I impress myself, but now that the seed of obsession has been planted in the folds of my brain, I cannot ignore it. Anyway, I broke out the nice paper for this one while also using the first backdrop I could get my hands on, perhaps this juxtaposition is symbolic of something… perhaps. I do like how most origami pterosaurs have their wings spread while this one is a rather unbothered fellow. ...

Yeah so really playing it risky with the time but hey it’s in before the day ends and that’s what matters. Today I watched Conclave, a film that had a lot of clergymen, and Italians, two of my ancient foes. Yet again, this is a statement that makes sense if you know me well and is utterly bewildering if you don’t know nine year’s worth of inside jokes. It also had a lot of candles, and candles are supposedly a symbol of hope and humanity which is a bit strange for a lump of burning wax but I suppose it is very human to find symbolism in everything. Here’s hoping I continue to make peace with my ancient foes in the next year of my life. ...

Yeah so I suppose every now and then I delve into nightmare fuel. They say your art reflects the truest version of yourself deep down and yeah every now and then I do feel like a bit of a clown… Unfortunately, this mask is not large enough to wear, though I do imagine perhaps with some effort, a large enough sheet of paper should suffice, the lack of eye holes is perhaps an issue for a more skilled origamist. ...
