Crawling towards that holiday and today’s model reflects that I suppose. So yes, having now joined the great rat race of full-time employment and also survived the terror of the end-of-year Christmas party, I do find myself counting the days until that Holiday draws near. I often lament the loss of the free time I once had. Though when I do start lamenting that loss too much I do remind myself that most of last year was spent angsting over the absolute war that is the job hunt. I suppose the great designers of the universe probably are not willing to give us a bit more time. Anyway, today’s model is the delightfully abstract ‘postcard from the Atlantic coast’, I have never been to the Atlantic coast so I will simply take the designer’s word that this is a common sight on the Atlantic coast. ...

Looks like I broke the bird streak… Anyway, 10 minutes to do this… and they said my time management would improve on the job. Anyway, after escaping my work Christmas party for the safety and warmth of my apartment, I know present a very safe model that always wows the children (it also wows the right kind of adults). Yes, I suppose pandas are always a bit of a crowd-pleaser. In fact my little habit of leaving origami in public places probably started with this panda, it also helps reduce my current excess of paper. I did have a friend say I was putting a bit of happiness into the world too but as far as I am involved, that effect is completely unintended. ...

Being watched by one condor is spooky enough. Two though, and I suppose I should breathe a sigh of relief that I am for the most part, too alive to be their prey. Yes I do notice there has been a slight ornithological theme with these recently. I suppose I’ll need to show off some other things. But yes, I suppose the condors are symbolic of the slow death of my free time now that I have joined the armies of faceless government drones doing the 8:30 - 17:00 five days a week. I do wish the condors would give a little of that time back though. ...

E tangi ana koe… What an appropriate song choice this late at night. And also what an appropriate choice of subject too lol (I swear this was not planned, the goodnight kiwi song just invades my mind when my brain is really telling me it’s bedtime). I will say it’s always good when your art reminds you of home. Four long years grinding it out here in the wilderness often leaves the heart yearning for the shores of your homeland or something like that. Here’s hoping the day I am reunited with good pies, jandals, and my preferred seat on the sofa comes soon. ...

A tragedy in two parts. Yes it’s that time of year where I frantically post the things I have been working on and remind my friends that I haven’t disappeared completely yet. So yes, this was actually going to originally just be the turkeys. But one of them kept falling over and so that led to the second picture. I suppose it could be a haunting commentary on the fragility of life. ...

So very little work was done today for some reason… also someone told me the first photo looks like I tried to drown a cat which is a bit morbid but I don’t have too many other backgrounds atm. ‘Paw pad’ designed by @genorigami , folded by @the.papershaper #paws #toebeans #cat #meow #scratch #origami #papercraft #hobbies ...

To the other artists, please tag your stuff if you see it here as the aim is to feature and celebrate your work!! This was part of the display at Fold Fest 2024 Convention over the weekend of 21st-22nd July. Artists like Gen Hagiwara, Steven Casey, Tomoko Fuse, Sukanya Deshmukh, Robert Lang, and many more contributed to this incredible array of models. Am blown away by the origami community - we had people coming from interstate, such as Perth and Central Australia, as well as international guests even from America as well as Japan. ...

Well last few minutes of Christmas in Melbourne and I probs should get this out of the way. This year was my fourth lonesome Christmas, I’m getting rather used to them (good time to practice origami). Though here’s hoping I saved up enough good samaritan points in 2023 so that I can spend Christmas 2024 with one other person. Wouldn’t that be something? In all seriousness, I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas and a Happy New Year! Meri Kirihimete! ...

My birthday arrives! Today I decided to try something I haven’t really done before, a human figure. I think I still like folding animals more, but this wizard was a good challenge. I hope he is more a Gandalf than a Rincewind. I will admit, 2023 was not the greatest year of my life. Back in 2022 I made a pledge that by the time my birthday rolled around in 2023 I would be employed and have finally found some purpose in life. Reflecting on these goals in 2023, I realise this year has taught me about managing expectations, being flexible with goals, and how to explain away a failure to meet goals when your peers ask. But here’s hoping this wisdom might pull me through 2024! ...

Birthday eve and I am happy to announce I am a car owner! Yes I built my own car from scratch so I don’t have to pay fees. But yeah last time I drove was prepandemic. Let’s hope I’m not behind the wheel any time soon.
